Top 10 Songs That Uplift Me

Last year, I wrote an article entitled “Top 10 Songs That Inspire Me” and I mentioned there that music is a fundamental part of my life. I believe it has the power to soothe, connect, animate, console... and so much more.

My uplifting playlist

These next "top 10" are songs that never fail to uplift me in hard times.

1. "It’s My Life" — Bon Jovi

"It's my life, It's now or never, But I ain't gonna live forever, I just want to live while I'm alive."

Inspired by Frank Sinatra, this song is no doubt a classic we all know and love. Not only does it have an incredibly electric beat, but it always reminds me to live life my way.

2. "Titanium" — David Guetta featuring Sia

"I'm bulletproof, nothing to lose, Fire away, fire away, You shoot me down, but I won't fall, I am titanium."

This is arguably one of the most empowering songs of all time. Titanium is about inner strength, perseverance, and courage. Its use of imagery, metaphors, and symbolism makes it impossible for anyone not to be affected by its fierce energy!

3. "Don't Stop Me Now" — Queen

"I'm a shooting star leaping through the sky, Like a tiger defying the laws of gravity, I'm gonna go, go, go, There's no stopping me."

Still considered one of the greatest rock songs of all time, Freddie Mercury’s spirit lives on through this song. This upbeat song will definitely make you feel unstoppable even if only for a few minutes.

4. "The Middle" — Jimmy Eat World

"Live right now, Yeah, just be yourself, It doesn't matter if it's good enough, For someone else."

A classic 90s rock song loaded with meaning! With an extremely high-energy sound and a genuinely fun rhythm, the band alludes to the importance of being yourself and forgetting about external validation.

5. "Viva La Vida" — Coldplay

"One minute I held the key, Next the walls were closed on me, And I discovered that my castles stand, Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand."

"Viva La Vida," or "Long Live Life" is a song that has the ability to make me cry and smile at the same time. It tells a story about losing everything and learning to carry on in the most poetic way.

6. "On Top of the World" — Imagine Dragons

"'Cause I'm on top of the world, I'm on top of the world, Waiting on this for a while now, Paying my dues to the dirt."

Anyone that has heard this song likely will agree that it is absolutely powerful! The feeling it transmits truly embodies its title.

7. "Brave" — Sarah Bareilles

"Sometimes a shadow wins, But I wonder what would happen if you, Say what you wanna say, I wanna see you be brave."

As an advocate, there are times when I fear sharing some of my personal experiences... this is the song I turn to when I need to remember to be brave.

8. "Wake Me Up" — Avicii

"So wake me up when it's all over, When I'm wiser and I'm older, All this time I was finding myself, and I, Didn't know I was lost."

We all lose ourselves sometimes, especially with a condition like narcolepsy, but this song always reminds me that the important thing is to keep finding ourselves again.

9. "Don't Stop Believin'" — Journey

"Streetlights, people, Livin' just to find emotion, Hidin', somewhere in the night, Don't stop believin', Hold on to that feelin'."

This classic never fails to make me want to get up and dance. It reminds me that we can't ever stop believing. Believing that things will get better. Believing that there is an answer. Believing that there is a reason for everything.

10. "Unwritten" — Natasha Bedingfield

"Live your life with arms wide open, Today is where your book begins, The rest is still unwritten."

As a writer, I like to believe that every day is a blank page that gives you the opportunity to start again.

"Unwritten" is the song you should listen to when you need that extra dose of motivation.
