Depression

Difficult to decide if l am depressed or it’s just my narcolepsy ( type 1)
I am retired , 74 this august , have lots to do all which don’t usually cause me to much effort . But just can’t be bothered . Just happy to let everything build up .(for months ) . Sleep is all l want to do , or just sit and do nothing .
So depressed or just an exaggeration of me .??? A narcoleptic for a life time , just not functioning!!!

  1. So sorry for your condition . Like Lori said, it's quite hard to differentiate. Besides going to psychiatrist, I went to psychotherapy to have some relieve and validation about my circumstances. Maybe you can try to have psychotherapist or psychologist. Although different with psychiatrist, but the right therapist will always understand our condition when we explain everything to them and provide us some comfort. Hopefully you will get better!

    1. Hi . It can be really hard to tell the difference. I am not a medical expert, but the fact that this has been going on for months leads me to believe that your narcolepsy has probably led to depression, which is not uncommon. It might be wise to address both. The ultimate specialist would be a neuro psychiatrist, someone who is an expert in mental health issues caused by neurological conditions, but they can be hard to find. Have you talked with your primary care doctor or your neurologist about your lethargy? You really need someone who can determine whether you need medication for wakefulness or medication/therapy for depression or both. Please check back and let us know how you are doing, if you don't mind. I will be thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)
