sleep paralysis or cataplexy?

What is it called, when waking up and you can't move or communicate, but are aware of all going on around you and can hear conversations?

  1. Hi . That was my grandmother's most frequent symptom. She also called it her secret weapon. Most people thought she was fully asleep and would have conversation around her that they wouldn't want others to overhear. She knew everything about everybody. We are not medical experts, but if it happens while you are waking up, it's probably sleep paralysis. For my grandmother, it was cataplexy. She wouldn't necessarily collapse, probably because she felt it coming on. So, to others, it looked like she sat down and fell asleep. Have you talked with your doctor about it? - Lori (Team Member)
