Winter Break and My Big Move

As I am writing this, I am currently on winter break and finished my second semester of college. I studied a lot for my finals, and I managed to pass all of my classes with A’s and B’s. I am relieved, to say the least.

Faced with a hard decision

So far, during winter break, I have been catching up on sleep, going to different appointments, recovering from being sick, and spending time with friends and family. Now that I am feeling a lot better, I will start packing to get ready to move in a month.

Since my current lease is up in February, I had to find somewhere else to live. My choices were to either live with my parents or move outside of the small town I live in. It was a hard decision, but I decided to move about 20 to 30 minutes away from where I am now.

Why I decided to move further away

I went back and forth on this decision because I am on the volunteer fire department in my town and I really enjoy being part of the department. Living in this small town is very expensive, especially with me being a full-time student and not working much.

The biggest reason I decided to move 20 to 30 minutes away is because next semester, and for basically the rest of my schooling, I will be in this town for school 4 to 5 days a week.

If I didn’t move to this city, I would have to drive 20 to 30 minutes every day to and from class. It wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t have to be in class by 8 or 9 AM every day and drive on busy interstates and highways.

Plus, in Iowa, where I live, the winters can be pretty rough, which would mean I would have to leave even earlier to get to class on time.

This is the right decision for me

I will miss being on the fire department, as where I will be living has only paid departments and with me being a full-time student, I could not have a full-time job on top of that.

I do know this is the right decision for me. It will save me a lot of money on gas, cheaper rent, and allow me to keep up with my sleep, not having to wake up so early. Less driving and not having to wake up so early will help my narcolepsy a lot because I will be able to sleep in. Less driving will help the most, I think, because driving takes a lot of energy out of me and I don’t have any extra energy for that.

Living with a new roommate

I probably looked at 10 different apartments until I found the one I will be living in. I will live with a friend I met in my program class. It will be nice living with her because we have all of our classes together so we can make sure each other gets up on time for class and make sure we do not get lost riding the bus and getting to class.

This friend is around my age, and we get along really well. Having a roommate will make rent and utility bills even cheaper, which will help both of us.

Looking forward to my new environment

I will be moving at the end of January, which is not exactly ideal because it will be after the semester starts and it could be very cold and snowy at that time. I am looking forward to moving and being in a new environment. I think this will help me with school, my narcolepsy, and more.

I hope that everyone has a happy new year! I will update again soon.
