Narcolepsy & Jury Duty

Do you have any suggestions for managing narcolepsy during jury duty?

  1. Same for me here in the states. I told the judge the DA and the defender, shared my doctor‘s information & explained that there was no way I could sit in a chair and not fall asleep. Additionally, no way I can keep all the facts straight in my mind - Long before my eyes close my brain has shut down/gone to sleep.

    1. Hi , thanks so much for sharing! Best, Allison (Team Member)

    2. I am in Texas, and got a notice for jury duty. I had to go online and fill out a questionnaire and one of the questions on it toward the end was something about is there any reason you should be exempt form jury duty? if yes why? I clicked yes and then narcolepsy and I was exempted I didn't have to show up in court at all. not sure what state you are in.. but I would say just stress as much as possible and provide as many dr notes and all that kind of stuff as you can to try and get out of it... otherwise.. my advice first day... when it hits sleep.. try not to fight it like we all do.. and then maybe they will get the hint that you really truly can't do this.
      good luck to you

  2. I know in UK I was except from jury duty because of Narcolepsy. Its only fair on the person being charged that everyone on the jury is alert and awake. Maybe you can asked to be let off jury duty.
