Narcolepsy mislabeled

Some people are misdiagnosed with other health conditions before they finally learn those symptoms are actually due to narcolepsy. With the correct diagnosis and treatment, they find their other diagnoses are no longer valid.
With that in mind, one community member asked this interesting question: What comorbidity were you diagnosed with that is no longer true now with your diagnosis of narcolepsy?

  1. I was diagnosed as bipolar shortly before getting a sleep study over 20 years ago. That diagnosis is still in my medical records even though it’s never been on my active list and I’ve not been prescribed any kind of medication. I’m currently trying to get it removed or atleast something stating that it was incorrect, but it’s not been easy since the doctor has retired. My doctors have tried every medication possible, but nothing has worked or the side effects have been too severe, so I’m trying to get into clinical trials and that diagnosis being in my files is keeping me from being accepted.

    1. Hi . I wish you didn't have to keep struggling with this and could get it removed. How frustrating. Thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)

  2. chronic fatigue, brain tumor, MS, mono, fibromyalgia, shall I go on.......

    1. started with sleep apnea diagnosis. machine did not help. then a 24 hour study.

    2. I'm glad you finally got that sleep study and I hope the diagnosis eventually leads to a better quality of life. - Lori (Team Member)

  3. I didn’t come down with narcolepsy until I was 68 years of age. I have narcolepsy type one.

    1. Hi . Welcome to the community! I'm glad you found us. Did you have any symptoms of narcolepsy in the past or did they all come on rather recently? Are you on a good treatment plan? - Lori (Team Member)
