Trouble with Processing Information

Hey guys!

I suffer from anxiety and stress whenever I try to process large amounts of information quickly.

It's like my brain gets scrambled, and I cannot focus one thing. I usually end up muddling everything up and end up feeling extremely exhausted trying to think about where to begin.

Recently, I spoke to a few people with narcolepsy who suffered from the same issue, and now I'm wondering if this could be related?

Does anyone else suffer this?

  1. Yes when I get too much that I have to take care of and would require my full attention I end up not doing what I needed to do and I have to take a nap which ends up 4-5 hours! Does anyone else take very long naps. I feel like I have missed so many days because I sleep so much. I actually take the generic version of Nuvigil.

    1. Hi . I think you will find lots of people here who sometimes need prolonged sleep during the day, Could that be your brain's way of telling you that you are overloaded with responsibility? Does it happen often? If so and if you find the naps disruptive, you might want to talk with your doctor about your Nuvigil dose. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Thanks Tre!! 😀

  3. I'm curious if any of you noticed a dramatic change in your memory and information processing when you started seeing symptoms of narcolepsy or idiopathic hypersomnia. I used to have an amazing memory, now I can't remember the conversation I just had or a family member's birthday. I am extremely indecisive and have lost all sense of time. I ran into a store to grab something quickly and my husband messaged me asking if I was ok since it had been a while. I was standing in the same aisle staring at stuff for 45 minutes and had no clue. I even had to put a clock in my shower because I would zone out without realizing it and end up running late to work. It's so frustrating because I never used to be like this. I try and take more notes and utilize alarms and calendars on my phone but I can only do so much.

    1. Hello, I actually do this more often than I think. It's hard to keep up with time especially when you have no support. Relaying on setting timers and alarms has been something I recently put into my routine and most days this method does help but other days I will sleep through the alarms and still wake up mins, or even hours later. It is really frustrating and overwhelming. I have miss out on a lot of things that matters to me and it becomes exhausting when these efforts your everyday life negativity.

    2. I wish you had more support, . Have you considered the kind of alarms that require you to do something to turn it off, usually something that requires wakeful thinking? Here is a forum post about alarms that might interest you: https://narcolepsy.sleep-disorders.net/forums/alarm-clock-suggestions. There are some good suggestions in the comments. 4. It's like I have Dementia only not. There is so much info I can't remember unless I write it down. I make major decisions that make perfect sense at the time and then later it's like what the heck was I thinking. It's very hard not remembering the past even if it was something recent.

    1. I so know what you mean! My memory is getting worse by the day but what you said about making major decisions specifically resonated with me because I speak to my friends about this all the time and I really think it's because of my narcolepsy but I can't be sure so it's really frustrating sometimes. Thanks for sharing, it's good to know that maybe there is something to it and it's not just me being crazy lol! Take care, Iris
