Tips for Parents with Narcolepsy

For those who are parents in the community, are there any tips you could give to other parents living with narcolepsy?

  1. I am a mother of 4 children ages 8,7,5 and 1 and I have been diagnosed with narcolepsy. My biggest tip is to accept yourself , if you don’t accept yourself you will never be able to be the mother you want to be! Accept that nap you may have to take

    1. That is a wonderful perspective, . So many children of people with chronic illnesses grow up to be caring an empathetic adults. I am sure your children will be among them. Thanks for chiming in. - Lori (Team Member)

  2. Don’t blame yourself! You have an incurable disease and can still have a good life although you have to deal with sleep. If people around you don’t understand, drop them! They are poison to your self-esteem and that’s the last thing you need.

    1. Self-love and self-protection have to come first, for sure, . I am glad you have embraced that approach. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)
