Which everyday task feels like an Olympic sport on a bad brain fog day?

In our poll https://narcolepsy.sleep-disorders.net/vote/poll/22945 , we gave the following options, but what else would you add? -Answering emails -Cooking dinner -Remembering why I walked into a room -Holding a conversation -Grocery shopping -Word retrieval -Finishing a laundry cycle

  1. Having to make quick decisions; arguments

    1. I can see how that would be diificult and frustrating. Thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)

  2. I have very bad behaviour. When someone pushes my buttons sometimes I really loose it, I become very abusive and my anger is really bad. The stuff that comes out of my mouth I don't realise I've said it untill after the fact. More often than not I do apologise. I have to stay away from people that trigger me. I can't control it. I asked my sleep doc does Narc cause bad behaviour, he said yes. I hate myself for it and I hate this disease.....I hate my bad behaviour.

    1. Hi . The fact that you recognize this behavior is not normal and that you want to change it is a great indicator that you will probably succeed. We are not medical experts, but I do have relatives with mental illnesses. In my experience, when someone behaves irrationally so often, there is usually a medical reason--maybe a chemical imbalance in the brain or undiagnosed diabetes (Blood sugar drops can make people extremely irritable.).
Have you talked with your primary care doctor about this? You might benefit from some bloodwork to rule out diabetes. If that's all good, maybe your doctor can refer you to a psychiatrist. People often get nervous about seeing a psychiatrist, but a psychiatrist is simply a doctor who specializes in the hormones produced by the brain. They won't judge you. They just want to help.
For now, you're wise to stay away from people who trigger you, but it pains me to think that you hate yourself for this when it might be something out of your control. Narcolepsy might sometimes make people Irritable or snappy, but it sounds like something else might be causing this as well. Wouldn't it be awesome if those referrals resulted in a solution and you didn't have to worry about it anymore? It's worth a try.

    2. Thanks very much for your understanding and support, it's great to have that from people who understand, and the thing is I have been seeing a psychiatrist for about 20 yrs and I do have mental health problems, I have suffered MDD (medicly diognosed depression all my life, it went undiognosed for about half my life so I'm on antidepressants for the rest of my life, I'm a suicide surviver. When I was first diognosed with narc I was suicidle every day for about the first 12 months I was angry because my life was going well I was in a good place I was doing well with my recovery in AA, I'm a recovering alcoholic 26 yrs a day at a time. I was glad I had the program because I remember what we were told, "accept the things we cannot change" when I was able to do that I handled things a bit better. I have to be careful what I eat, I have to eat very healthy no junk no carbs or sugar it makes a huge difference in my mood wakefullness energy I feel mostly normal. I am on hormone replacement I have to have them because I had a complete hysterectomy so I have no hormones and I"M good with that. Also I have mild sleep apnea on top of my narc I have to use a CPAP machine that can be tricky having both even my sleep doc says that. Anyways I'm good and I'm going to have a great day. you have a great day also. Thank you so very much for you great suggestions I will do something about it.
      Much love and hugs
      Faith.
