Not lazy just sick

My entire adult life was destroyed by this. I have always wondered why I couldn't keep a job for more than 3 days before I couldn't get out of bed to go to work. I would present myself to doctors in an ER and tell them that I had to take 1,600mgs of caffeine just to get out of bed and for over 25 years I've been asking them "why am I so tired all the time"? All I got was chronic fatigue syndrome. Now I know that my hypocretin/orexin-1 level is 30.1% , typically it should be between 40-60% and at 40% that's determined to be undetectable. I've learned to be able to describe my symptoms in detail to doctors that better helps them understand what's wrong with me.

  1. I kept excedrine in my purse in case I fell asleep in a meeting. I would nap at gas stations with my 1 year old in the backseat watching a movie almost every day going to and from work. My biomom took me to a dr when I was young but didn’t get me tested. She told everyone I had hypoglycemia so I would eat every time I felt bad. Sneaking naps in, in my office. Everything I accomplished while also secretly fighting to stay awake. What would have happened if I was well the whole time?

    1. That must have been super difficult, especially with a young child. When were you finally diagnosed? Are you on a good treatment plan now? Thinking of you and wishing you the best. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. I have always admired you for how you help us Lori, thank you

    2. You are so kind, . Thank you! I'm glad you are finally getting the treatment you need and deserve. This has been such a long battle for you. It must be a relief in someways to learn you are neurodivergent. Now that you know, I hope you will embrace it. Warm wishes. - Lori (Team Member)
