What kinds of jobs do other narcoleptics have?

Recently diagnosed Narcolepsy w/o cataplexy. I'm still struggling with my medications and I've been having trouble with falling asleep through them. Currently I am a home care CNA but am nervous that it won't be maintainable long term. What kinds of jobs do you have? How do you manage it?

  1. The job I had (Doing alarm system tech support from a home office) I fell asleep a few times. I was encouraged to take short term disability through the company. When I tried to qualify for the long term disability (which I paid for) when short term ended and when meds didn't work to keep me awake, I was denied multiple times and then fired.
I have MANY health issues besides my Narcolepsy Type 1 and have yet to find any job, even part time I can do.
I am going through applying for social security disability. Have been denied once and am appealing. I've obtained a law firm for the appeal. I really wish I could work. I miss it and have been self sufficient my entire life, since I was 15 yrs old. It's a very hard pill to swallow that I can no longer work. And even harder that disability was denied.
I'd love to know what others are able to do for work! Or find a job as a mattress tester LOL!!

    1. Hi . I hope your disability is approved this time around. Your chances are likely better with the help of a law firm. Even on disability, you arelegally allowed to earn a certain amount of income. You'd have to look into the amounts to be sure. Are you crafty at all? Many people with disabilities sell items they make at vendor events or online. The nice thing about that type of work is that you can create items when you are able and simply sell what you have in stock. No pressure. - Lori (Team Member)

  2. Hi . This is such a great question. I hope you get lots of input from the community and that your eventually achieve a balance with your treatment that allows you to sleep. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)
